SilverStone External Hard Drives RS431U Editorial Review
The Silverstone Tek 4 Bay 1U Rackmount RAID Storage Unit provides a simple and effective setup for backup drives, offering USB 3.0 and eSATA interface connectivity. However, there are limitations such as not supporting hot swapping, issues with connection stability, and unclear instructions for setting up RAID. One user found the unit to be unreliable, experiencing disconnections when using it with a Mac. The transfer speeds also did not meet expectations and there were concerns about the unit’s durability, as it stopped working after three years. However, the device was praised for its sturdy Construction and quiet operation. It was also noted that it is a cost-effective alternative to other RAID storage solutions, making it suitable for backup purposes with the option for freestanding positioning. Overall, this storage unit is recommended for those who need reassurance against single disk failure and want a simple RAID setup, although there are concerns about its long-term reliability and compatibility with certain systems.
