Modern Editorial Review

This editorial review gives an overview of Simone Weil and her writings as found in 'Gravity and Grace'. The book is a collection of her writings that manifest her spiritual seeking and philosophy. The topics it covers include love, evil, the social framework, and asceticism. Weil practices spiritual disciplines using the via negativa and acknowledges two essential forces, gravity and grace, which are complementary in her view. Weil's writing style often reflects her deep alienation and personal suffering but maintains honesty and intellectual probing. Overall, readers seem to have a good experience with the product. One reviewer found the book "a reading that changes perspectives and with it, in many ways life and how we relate to life", while another described Simone Weil as "an apostle for our time." However, some readers found the writing quixotic, a little dated, and self-absorbed. While another found it interesting, and Simone Weil compared gravity with materialism and grace with spirituality.
